It's been a busy week around here and I haven't had much of a chance to do any sewing. So when it turned out that I was going to be home today, I couldn't help myself. I had to work on Sofie's quilt top. A few weeks ago I came across a really cute free quilt pattern over at Modabakeshop.com. The quilt is called "Just Growing" by LeAnne Ballard. I loved the look of it, but I wanted a square, not a rectangle and I wanted the entire quilt top to made up of 5" squares. I made 9 rows of 9. I used her patterns for the flower appliques. There is one large flower and 3 small ones. They are attached to the quilt with Wonder Under right now, but I will use Pearl Cotton and do a blanket stitch by hand to make them more permanent and add some texture.
I'm really loving the fabric colors that April picked out! You really can't go wrong with Riley Blake fabrics. They are just so adorable!
And for those of you who are interested in how Evie's quilt is coming along, here are pictures of my hand quilting in progress....
I'm really enjoying the process and there is something so yummy about the weight of this little quilt!
With all of our favorite shows on hiatus for the summer,
that means the hubby gets to watch lots of "Manly Movies" at our house...
and that means lots of hand sewing time for me :)
They are so beautiful and the little Princesses will have a priceless treasure from Nana. I can't wait to see them finished. And the hand quilting is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteLoving the big stitch quilting!!
ReplyDeletethey are turning out really nice!
Both quilts are beautiful!!! You have such a great sense when it comes to knowing what colors and fabric patterns to mix together. I need some lessons in that area.
ReplyDeleteI like doing hand-stitching while watching movies. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me feel less guilty about sitting down to relax because I have something to show for it.
Very nice Nana :-)!
ReplyDeleteKaren, thanks for coming over to my blog :) Btw, I see that you also have an etsy store. Please feel free to join my Market Your Biz and Giveaways tomorrow at 5 pm, PST.
